Optimism is one of the biggest scaling solutions for Ethereum with over $300 million in TVL. It is home to 35 protocols, the biggest being Synthetix (SNX), a derivatives exchange, Uniswap (UNI), a DEX, and Velodrome (VELO), an AMM.
Optimism is not the first project hoping to solve the issues on the Ethereum mainnet surrounding cost and speed. Some of the other large Layer 2 and sidechains include Polygon (MATIC), xDAI (xDAI), and Loopring (LRC). Optimism has already attracted large projects, which have been easily integrated through the OVM.
Another feature that sets Optimism apart from its competition is its focus on “Public Goods,” completed through the Ecosystem Fund and the Retroactive Public Goods Funding program. Portions of the total token supply are reserved for the funding and rewarding of projects that are helpful to society as a whole.

Decentralized finance protocol Curve Finance submitted a grant application to Optimism, the optimistic rollup developed as a second layer on the Ethereum network.
The proposal goes on to detail the plan to use one million Optimism tokens by Curve pools. Valued today at $850,000, this one million tokens would be distributed to the various liquidity pools for twenty weeks, at a rate of 50,000 per week.
The sUSD, sETH, and sBTC pools will receive this weekly allocation (if the governance vote validates the proposal) in order to create an incentive, an economic interest, an incentive to come and deposit their funds in the protocol. This will increase the interest of liquidity providers to approach DeFi with Optimism. With the upcoming release of Ethereum 2.0, investors are depositing an extremely large number of ETH to the Optimism smart contract with deposits spiking to 40,000 coins, which is an unseen number of coins deposited to Optimism in the last 90 days. Anyway, you should definitely hold this token before the coming Merge.
